Every radio owner, CEO and GM spends a great deal of their time, in and out of the office, trying to figure out how to pay for everything required to keep a radio station on the air and in the black. Looking at reports and projections, determining how to make their bottom lines as efficient as possible so they can somehow cover them with a top line that never seems to hit projections. Instead of making deeper cuts at the local level, gutting any chance of increasing the local revenue that will ultimately save radio, I have another suggestion for what to cut… your consultant if they do any or all of the following.
- Haven’t changed their approach in 20+ years
- Don’t understand digital content creation or how to monetize digital content
- Thinks podcasting is a fad
-
Think other stations playing a song means it’s a hit in 2025
- Doesn’t look at market level song data
- Stopped going to radio conferences and conventions
- Has never visited your market
- Thinks airchecking on-air talent is no longer necessary
- Doesn’t respond to emails or calls in a timely manner
- Has more clients than one person could possibly handle
- Copy and pastes everything they do in one market to every other market without localizing anything
- Doesn’t understand or use AI tools
However, if you’d like to work with a consultant who is constantly evolving his approach, loves to talk and write about digital content creation and monetization, podcasts weekly and coaches podcasters, looks at market level song data daily, spoke at NAB in Vegas and led a panel at NAB in New York last year, attends his state broadcast convention every year, loves visiting his clients markets, thinks airchecking talent is still the best way for on-air personalities to improve, responds quickly because he doesn’t take on more clients than he can handle, localizes and regionalizes everything and uses AI tools daily to be more efficient, than I’m your guy. Plus, because we have the option of barter and we customize every solution to our client’s specific needs, we can fit any situation or budget.
