Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, military leaders point fingers at Biden

Top military leaders testified before a Senate panel yesterday that they had advised Biden not to withdraw all troops from Afghanistan. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, General Mark Milley and General Frank McKenzie punched holes in the White House’s defense of the process painting a dire picture of post-withdrawal Afghanistan. They also said they warned Biden the Afghan military would collapse if the US were to leave the country. However, they didn’t mention it would collapse in 24 hours. (Additional Out) That’s gonna make things a little awkward next time they’re all in the situation room.

Tease: In ______ minutes, how and where to score free coffee today

You can score free coffee at Starbucks and Dunkin’ today in honor of National Coffee Day. Starbucks is offering customers who bring a ‘clean, empty, reusable cup’ into any US location will receive one gratis cup of Pike Place brewed coffee. Dunkin’ is giving away one free medium hot or iced coffee with any purchase to members of its DD Perks loyalty program. 7-Eleven and Krispy Kreme have similar deals to Dunkin and Starbucks today only. But I’ve found that coffee is always free at Starbucks if you just wait for someone with your same name to order. (Additional Out) Or you can just drink the free coffee in the break room from the pot nobody’s cleaned in two years.

Tease: Coming up at _____, Democrats turn on each other as the shutdown nears

Democratic factions are splintering as party leaders try to keep Biden’s legislative agenda alive. Progressives are revolting over Pelosi’s plan to hold a vote on a $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill before striking a deal on a multi-trillion-dollar spending package expanding the social safety net. Meanwhile the clock is ticking on a government shutdown, which needs to be addressed by the end of tomorrow. I’ve read this book before, they’ll make an 11th hour deal they could’ve made weeks ago. (Additional out) If there’s one thing democrats are good at it’s fighting amongst themselves.

Tease: In _____ minutes, this NBA legend wants unvaccinated players kicked out of the league

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar weighed in on player vaccinations saying that he wants unvaccinated NBA players cut from the league adding ‘there’s no room for them.’ According to ESPN roughly 85 percent of NBA players are vaccinated and the remaining 15 percent claim to have no plans to do so. But actual NBA commissioner LeBron James is vaccinated so at least he’s doing his part. (Additional out) Not surprisingly, flat-earther Kyrie Irving refuses to say whether he’s vaccinated.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: When No Time to Die finally hits theaters on October 8th, it’ll be Daniel Craig’s last time to portray James Bond. After the 53-year-old actor’s fifth and final time playing the role of 007 producers will kick of a search for the next Bond. Vegas gives British actor Tom Hardy the best odds of landing the iconic role, followed by Rene Jean Page, Luke Evans, James Norton, Sam Heughan, Tom Hiddlestone and Michael Fassbender. What do you think, who should be the next James Bond?

Contest Tease: Coming up at _____________, how fast did this record-breaking dog do this? The correct answer wins ________.

[Contest setup] Macho, a Jack Russell terrier, is in the record books after he made a mad dash around the bases at the LA Dodger’s Stadium. He’s now the fastest dog in history to run the bases at a major league stadium, beating the previous record by more than 2 seconds. What was Macho’s record setting base running time?

A: 21.06 seconds

B: 23.06 seconds

C: 25.06 seconds

Answer: A, Macho rounded and touched all the bases in just 21.06 seconds. I wouldn’t want to be his mailman.

[DIY Feature] What in the World Wednesday: I’ll give you riddle clues about a place, person or thing and the first person to guess it correctly wins _________. If no one gets it I’ll give you more clues.

Hint: Sport

Clue 1: Pankration was the earliest competitive form of it tracing back to Ancient Greece

Clue 2: Bruce Lee is often considered the Grandfather of its modern form

Clue 3: Also known as cage fighting, no holds barred and ultimate fighting

Answer: MMA

Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, we move one step closer to a government shutdown

Senate Republicans blocked a bill that would avert a government shutdown and prevent the US from defaulting on its debt. Now there’s no clear plan among lawmakers to keep government funding from running out at the end of the month. If no deal is reached the government will close on Friday. No biggie, its not like we’re still in a global pandemic or anything. (Additional Out) Which should make for a fun weekend.

Tease: In ______ minutes, this SNL cast member is leaving the show

Beck Bennett announced his departure from SNL after 8 years. The man behind a solid Putin and Pence impression took to Instagram to show his appreciation for the quote ‘remarkable people and incredible experiences that completely changed my life.’ While Bennett is leaving, all the other regular cast members will return. This Saturday SNL will kick off its 47th season. 19 of which were funny. (Additional Out) Tune in live or just watch the good parts on YouTube Sunday.

Tease: Coming up at _____, TikTok surpasses a major tech milestone

TikTok now has more than 1 billion active monthly users. The company said in a blog post yesterday that they have reached the exclusive tech milestone. The short-form video app’s popularity surged as people spent more time on their phones during the pandemic. Instead of connecting with their loved ones. (Additional out) Plus, it inspired an Applebee’s commercial I’m really getting tired of.

Tease: In _____ minutes, this hamster knows more about crypto than I do

A German hamster’s cryptocurrency portfolio is beating the market, up 16% since June. In trading sessions livestreamed on Twitch the hamster named Mr. Goxx runs on an ‘intention wheel’ that spins around and chooses a cryptocurrency. Then it scampers through either a ‘buy’ or ‘sell’ tunnel triggering purchases or sales of roughly 20 euros worth of that cryptocurrency. If he chooses a crypto and immediately poops everywhere, sell that pretend currency immediately. (Additional out) I expect this from the country that gets their weather predictions from a groundhog, but not you Germany.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: Podcasts are surging. According to a new poll 55.9% of people reported regularly listening to podcasts, that’s up from 48.7% in 2020. That continues a sharp upward trend for podcasting in recent years. What about you, do you regularly listen to podcasts and if so, what’s your favorite kind of podcast? Comedy, True Crime, News, Sports, Health/Fitness, Religious, Political, Self-Help, or something else?

B: Lupin: Part 1

C: Bridgerton

Answer: C, 82-million subscribers tuned in to Bridgerton making it Netflix’s most watched series. Unfortunately, the one character everyone watched the show for won’t be back for season 2.

[DIY Feature] Knockout Trivia Tuesday: I’ll ask a question on air, if you call in and correctly answer it you’ll have twenty seconds to answer three more questions to win ________. If no one gets it, we’ll move on to round 2.

Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, when Pfizer says they’ll be ready to ask for approval of a vaccine for kids

In a matter of days Pfizer CEO says they’ll be ready to ask the FDA for approval of a Covid vaccine for kids. Pfizer Chairman and CEO Albert Bourla told ABC News ‘It’s a question of days, not weeks’ when asked about when the company will submit data on children ages 5 to 11. Currently, Covid-19 vaccines are only approved for children 12 and older. In other words, if you still think your parents are cool, you can’t get a shot yet. (Additional Out) Hence why you see a lot of tiny ninjas anywhere you go.

Tease: In ______ minutes, this kickers long field goal set an all-time NFL record yesterday

Baltimore Raven’s kicker Justin Tucker set an NFL record yesterday with an insane 66-yard field goal, two yards longer than the record. In a dramatic ending as time expired, Tucker converted the 66-yarder with the ball bouncing off the crossbar and through the uprights to give the Ravens a 19-17 win over Detroit. Unfortunately, he didn’t call it off the cross bar. (Additional Out) Sadly though, they were playing Detroit so no one saw it.

Tease: Coming up at _____, new Taliban rules

Barbers in Afghanistan are now prohibited from shaving men’s beards and playing music in their shops. That’s according to a statement issued by the Taliban-led department of virtue and vice. The statement added that anyone who breaks the rules will be ‘dealt with according to the Sharia principles and they will not have the right to complain.’ Apparently the Taliban believes in celebrating No Shave November all year long. (Additional out) Even if their beard is super itchy.

Tease: In _____ minutes, Captain Kirk is finally going to space for real

Actor Williams Shatner is about to go Star Trekking. TMZ reported that the actor who played Captain Kirk is expected to announce today that he’s going up on Jeff Bezos’ Blue Original rocket in October. The trip will make the 90-year-old Shatner the oldest person to head out into space. Giving new meaning to the words ‘final frontier’. (Additional out) I assume this means Elon Musk is now legally bound to take Captain Picard on his rocket.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: Most business executives would be willing to pay cyber ransoms according to a new survey. The poll found that 78% of C-suite executives would pay cyber ransoms, with 56% saying they’d pay over $100,000 in order to resume operations. What do you think, if companies are hacked should they just pay the ransom?

Contest Tease: Coming up at _____________, how many of us are did this more often during the pandemic? The correct answer wins ________.

[Contest setup] A new Harris Poll asked Americans 21 and over about their drinking habits since the pandemic began. According to their findings, what percentage of Americans say they’ve been ‘drinking heavily’ amid the pandemic?

A: 1 in 10

B: 1 in 5

C: 1 in 3

Answer: A, around 1 in 5 Americans say they’ve been drinking heavily since Covid-19 hit the US. I assume for radio DJs that number is 1 in 1.

[DIY Feature] Name that Movie Monday: I’ll give you a clue and play a short clip, the first person to call in and correctly identify the movie wins ________. If no one gets it I’ll move on to another clue and a slightly longer clip.

Clue #1: Early 2000’s Rom Com

Clue #2: Follows an advice columnist

Clue #3: Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey

Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, humans lived in this part of the country earlier than we thought

Footprints show humans lived in the Southwestern U.S. about 10,000 years earlier than scientists thought. The previously held theory had people arriving in North America at the end of the Ice Age around 13,000 years ago. But, researchers studying fossilized human footprints in New Mexico say they have the first unequivocal evidence that humans were in North America at least 23,000 years ago. Or, hear me out on this, someone from the future invented a time machine and forgot to bring shoes. (Additional Out) Further proof that very little we learned in school turned out to be accurate.

Tease: In ______ minutes, this show we all watched during lockdown is coming back for a second season

Tiger King is returning for a second season on Netflix later this year. But we don’t have a lot of info yet, Netflix hasn’t announced a hard release date or a debut trailer. We also don’t know which characters Tiger King 2 will feature or focus on. Since the main character is in prison and the only one who still has tigers is the lady who fed her ex-husband to one, allegedly but also definitely. (Additional Out) But does it really matter since every character they introduced was weirder than the last?

Tease: Coming up at _____, who can now get a booster vaccine

People 65 and older, patients of long-term care facilities, those with certain underlying conditions and people at risk because of their workplace can now officially begin getting Pfizer’s Covid-19 booster shots. The last group was actually not included in the recommendations of the CDC’s vaccine advisers, but CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky included them in her final approval. But people on team Moderna or team Johnson and Johnson will still have to wait. (Additional out) I’m sure that will settle the booster debate.

Tease: In _____ minutes, some of the features in Norwegian’s insane new cruise ship

A new Norwegian cruise ship will feature the world’s first free-fall dry slide at sea and a three-level go kart racetrack. Norwegian Prima is due to set sail in August of 2022 and it’s already the cruise line’s most in-demand ship ever. The go kart track stretches 1,378 feet, features 14 sharp turns and can accommodate 15 racers simultaneously with a section of the track offering open ocean views. And hopefully some decent guard rails since every adult on a cruise is hammered from noon on. (Additional out) Count me in on the go karts and out on any slide with the words ‘free-fall’ and ‘dry’ in it.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: Kelly Clarkson just released a new Christmas song and its not even October yet. The singer-songwriter and TV host released her new holiday single ‘Christmas Isn’t Canceled (Just You)’ yesterday. The track is one of fifteen off her upcoming ‘When Christmas Comes Around’ album that will come out October 15th. What do you think, is she too early and when do you want to start hearing Christmas music?

Contest Tease: Coming up at _____________, how many of us are making this food choice during the pandemic? The correct answer wins ________.

[Contest setup] If you and your family have eaten more fast food during the pandemic you’re not alone. According to a new national poll on children’s health, what percentage of American families admitted that they’re eating fast food more frequently since the pandemic began?

A: 20%

B: 30%

C: 40%

Answer: A, 20% of parents say their family has been consuming more fast food during the pandemic. The other 80% are lying.

[DIY Feature] Fast Five Fridays: If you can name five in five seconds you’ll win _________. Call for your chance to win.

Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, the FDA made a major announcement on booster shots

The FDA will grant emergency use authorization for a booster dose of Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine in people 65 and older as well as those at high risk because of pre-existing conditions or their job. The next step is for the CDC to give their stamp of approval. But the Pfizer booster shots could be available as early as this week. Hopefully the third time’s the charm. (Additional out) No word on when your cousin’s friend’s brother who did his own research will sign off on it.

Tease: In ______ minutes, what’s new on Netflix in October

The third season of You, Escape the Undertaker, Locke & Key and Sexy Beasts are a few of the highlights of what’s new on Netflix in October. See the full list on our website. Some of the new films include Jake Gyllenhaal’s The Guilty on October 1st and Megan Fox’s Night Teeth October 20th. In other words, plenty for you to scroll through for hours without watching anything. (Additional Out) Which is about vampires, not dentures.

Tease: Coming up at _____, what a looming Government shutdown could do

Social security payments, child tax credits and food stamps could all be delayed by a possible upcoming government shutdown. Economists also fear it could set off a recession that would wipe out millions of jobs. The government will shut down if Democrats and Republicans can’t work out a debt ceiling deal before the mid-October deadline. So in other words, we’re screwed. (Additional out) Hopefully they learned their lesson from the past 7 times this has happened.

Tease: In _____ minutes, now they say this fat is good for you

People who eat more dairy fat have a lower risk of heart disease according to a new study. An international team of scientists studied the dairy consumption of 4,150 60-year-olds in Sweden, a country with one of the highest levels of dairy consumption, by measuring blood levels of a particular fatty acid found in dairy foods. They then watched them all for 16 years to see how many had heart attacks and the results showed that those who ate more dairy fat fared better. Good to hear that my all cheese diet will finally pay off. (Additional out) That’s an interesting way to do a study, ‘eat all this cheese and let us know when you keel over.’

Phone Topic/Web Poll: Johnny Depp spoke out against cancel culture. The Academy Award winning actor complained to reporters at a film festival in Spain that it only takes on bad sentence and then people no longer have any ground to stand on. He added that its ‘So far out of hand’ and ‘No one is safe.’ Depp lost his role in Fantastic Beasts after losing his libel case against The Sun. What do you think, has cancel culture gone too far?

Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, the crisis on the Texas border continues

Texas Governor Greg Abbott approved a miles-long ‘steel barrier’ of vehicles to deter migrants at the border. There are still 8,600 Haitian migrants camped under a bridge in Del Rio, Texas. According to two U.S. officials many migrants from the camps are being released into the U.S., undercutting the White House’s public statements that they faced immediate deportation. Just another example of our state and federal governments working together seamlessly. (Additional out) So it looks like two officials need to get their resumes ready.

Tease: In ______ minutes, Lionel Messi won’t be the highest paid footballer for long

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to leapfrog Lionel Messi as the highest paid football player in the world, according to Forbes. Currently Ronaldo’s long-time rival Messi holds that title, earning $110 million this year. But following his move back to Manchester United, Critiano Ronaldo is forecast to earn $125 million before taxes. Apparently, I should’ve spent less time tossing the baseball around in the backyard growing up and more time kicking a soccer ball. (Additional Out) Or roughly 1.25 million per flop.

Tease: Coming up at _____, the search continues for person of interest Brian Laundrie

The FBI is asking for the public’s help finding Gabby Petito’s fiancé as new tips emerge about his previous movements. Brian Laundrie returned home from a cross country road trip without 22-year-old Gabby Petito. Her remains were positively identified yesterday, with the cause of death listed as a homicide. Laundrie’s parents told investigators he was at a Florida nature reserve but an extensive search has yielded no results. When they find him he ought to share a cell with his parents and lawyer who’ve been lying to police this whole time. (Additional out) I’ve watched enough Dateline’s to know that this guy is 100% guilty.

Tease: In _____ minutes, the exact time fall begins today

Today at 3:21pm (Easter Time, 12:21pm Pacific Time) fall will officially begin. That’s when we enter our second and final equinox of 2021. During the equinox, everyone from pole to pole gets to enjoy roughly a 12-hour split of day and night. Plus, you can walk outside again without bursting into flames. (Additional out) Which would matter to me if I still went outside.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: Dancing With the Stars returned this week for it’s 30th season.
Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, Biden heads to the UN

President Biden is due to speak today at the UN General Assembly. Addressing the assembly is one of the biggest moments in the spotlight for any head of state. Biden will reportedly try to rally allies to address emerging global challenges and leave old conflicts behind. And I’m guessing he’ll throw in a few ‘Come on man’s’. (Additional out) So hopefully he gets his nap in first so they don’t get cranky Biden.

Tease: In ______ minutes, a few things you may pay more for this holiday season

Prices are soaring for Christmas trees and decorations ahead of the upcoming holiday season. Some large sellers of artificial trees say they are increasing their prices by double-digit percentages and blaming unduly high shipping costs tied to the ongoing global supply chain mess. Americans already spend between 1 and 2 billion per year on artificial Christmas trees. Guess I’ll have to huff it into the woods and Clark Griswold it this year. (Additional Out) I guess I’m cheap because I’ve been using the same artificial tree for decades.

Tease: Coming up at _____, what caused the S&P 500s biggest one-day slide since May

Evergrande, a Chinese real estate giant, is in trouble and that’s disrupting global markets. Yesterday the news caused the US stock market and global markets to take a tumble. Some are likening it to the 2008 collapse of Lehman Brothers. The massive business has huge debts, about $300 billion worth, and Evergrande remains in danger of defaulting. No you don’t, we’ve got to wait for this crisis to end before we start another one. (Additional out) The business equivalent of taking your ball and going home.

Tease: In _____ minutes, how old the world’s oldest identical twins are

Two 107-year-old Japanese sisters are being recognized as the world’s oldest living identical twins ever. Guinness World Records confirmed that Umeno Sumiyama and Koume Kodama were born November 5th, 1913 on Shodo Island to a family of 13. So congratulations for being good at not dying. (Additional out) Meaning they’ve lived through two world wars, multiple pandemics and twenty four Bond films.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: People are loving Peyton and Eli Manning’s Monday Night Football alternate feed commentary two weeks into the season. Last night Peyton took a lighthearted shot at the Patriots for their history of cheating. However, like week one the two spent the majority of the time making fun of each other. What do you think, where does Peyton rank and who’s the funniest former athlete? Peyton, Shaq, Charles Barkley, John McEnroe, Terry Bradshaw, Marshawn Lynch, Kareem Abdul Jabar, Terry Crews, Pat McAfee, Yogi Berra.

Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, last night’s big winners at the Emmys

Ted Lasso, The Crown and Mare of Easttown were the big winners last night at the 73rd Emmy Awards. For comedy Ted Lasso won 7 awards including lead actor, supporting actor, supporting actress and outstanding comedy series. For drama The Crown took lead actor, supporting actor, lead actress, and supporting actress. For limited series Mare of Easttown won lead actress, supporting actor and supporting actress. But, the best news is the Emmy’s are back with an audience and just as boring as ever. (Additional out) Plus, it also won for least consistent accents.

Tease: In ______ minutes, what Pfizer says about 5 to 11 year-olds and their vaccine

Pfizer says their Covid vaccine is safe for kids aged 5 to 11. Today the pharmaceutical company released date from a phase 2/3 trial that showed its Covid-19 vaccine was safe and generated a ‘robust’ antibody response in children that are 5 to 11 years-old. Pfizer said it plans to submit to the FDA for emergency use authorization soon. Good, cause keeping a mask on a 5-year-old is like keeping a shirt on Matthew McConaughey throughout an entire movie. (Additional Out) Good news for our cute and tiny fellow Americans.

Tease: Coming up at _____, an NFL week two recap

Seven teams remain undefeated after a wild Sunday of NFL action. The Rams, 49ers, Raiders, Panthers, Broncos, Cardinals and Buccaneers all improved to 2 and 0 with victories. The Seahawks fell to 1 and 1 after the Titans mounted a big second-half comeback. In Sunday Night Football, the Ravens narrowly defeated the Chiefs 36 to 35. As usual I watched Sunday Night Football with the sound off to avoid hearing Chris Collinsworth. (Additional out) Plus, Sunday featured another round of lame taunting calls in the league’s continued effort to suck all of the fun out of the game.

Tease: In _____ minutes, this new beer is so strong its illegal in 15 states

Samuel Adams’ new limited-edition beer is so strong it’s illegal in 15 states, plus it retails for $240 a bottle. The brewers twelfth edition of its Utopias brand contains 28% alcohol by volume, more than five times the potency of typical US brews. And ten times the potency of Coors Light. (Additional out) Luckily, I’ve spent the entire pandemic building up my tolerance.

Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, a new study shows how many people had long covid

1 in 3 people who survived Covid-19 had long Covid according to new research. Long Covid means they reported symptoms more than two months after their first positive test. Most common long Covid symptoms include breathing difficulty, loss of taste and smell and muscle or joint pain. Hopefully it also at least leads to long antibodies. (Additional out) Other symptoms include, inserting the fact that you had long Covid into every conversation.

Tease: In ______ minutes, how long Tom Brady thinks he’ll play in the NFL

Tom Brady says he can play in the NFL until age 50. In a video produced by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Thursday Gronkowski asked the 44-year-old Brady a question that people often search on Google: ‘Can Tom Brady play until 50?”. Tom replied ‘I think I can. I think it’s a yes.’ That means he would play until 2027. Which seems plausible since the refs never let anyone lay a finger on him. (Additional Out) Whereas Gronk will retire at least three more times by then.

Tease: Coming up at _____, these two will host Jeopardy through the end of the year

Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings will share hosting duties for Jeopardy! through the end of the year. Bialik is a real neuroscientist who starred on The Big Bang Theory and Ken Jennings is the highest earning Jeopardy! champion of all time. The show made the announcement yesterday on their Twitter account. Because Mike Richards once said something remotely offensive on a podcast. (Additional out) I’ll take ‘Who cares at this point?’ for a thousand.

Tease: In _____ minutes, the number one song of all time according to Rolling Stone

Aretha Franklin’s 1967 classic ‘Respect’ is the number one song of all time according to Rolling Stone. The magazine reached out to hundreds of musicians to compile a new list of the 500 greatest tunes of all time and the Queen of Soul’s first number one single took the top spot. Public Enemy’s 1989 ‘Fight the Power’ and Sam Cooke’s classic ‘A Change is Gonna Come’ rounded out the top 3. Bob Dylan previously held the top spot with ‘Like a Rolling Stone’ which fell to number four. Shockingly Billy Ray Cyrus’ 1992 smash hit ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ didn’t even make the list. (Additional out) As you can imagine angry nerds on the internet vehemently disagreed with the entire list.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: Cedric the Entertainer will host the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards this Sunday. The event will be in person this year after last year’s mostly virtual show. The eight shows nominated for Outstanding Drama Series are Bridgerton, Lovecraft Country, Pose, The Boys, The Crown, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Mandalorian and This Is Us. The Crown is the odds on favorite according to Vegas, but what do you think, which nominee should win Outstanding Drama Series Sunday?

Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, this year’s most influential people according to Time magazine

Tim Cook, Billie Eilish, Simone Biles and Alexei Navalny are some of the ‘most influential people in the world’ according to Time Magazine. Time released their annual list along with several covers featuring some of the names at the top. Other people to grace the ‘most influential’ covers this year include Naomi Osaka, Britney Spears and Meghan and Harry. For refusing to carry on a tradition that should’ve ended 50 years ago. (Additional out) After doing that Oprah interview that made Piers Morgan’s head explode.

Tease: In ______ minutes, the booster shot debate continues

Three reports published yesterday support the argument that booster shots of Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine would be safe and effective and may be needed. An FDA advisory committee will meet tomorrow to consider Pfizer’s application to offer boosters. A recent FDA review found that an additional shot increased immune response but also that the current regimen still provided strong protection from death and severe illness. I don’t care, boost away, I’ll take a shot every month if it means this stupid pandemic will finally end. (Additional Out) Personally, I’ve been taking booster shots of tequila daily since the Delta variant emerged.

Tease: Coming up at _____, the first electric truck is here and it isn’t Ford, GM or Tesla

The first all-electric consumer ready pickup is here. Startup truck maker Rivian beat Ford, Tesla and GM by rolling the R1T pickup off the line in a former Mitsubishi plant in Normal, Illinois this week. The Rivian R1T is priced at $73,000 and has four electric motors, one mounted on each wheel, delivering an impressive 700 horsepower with an 11,000 pound towing capacity. Plus, it looks way cooler than that space truck Elon Musk is making. (Additional out) Meaning it’ll easily pull that boat you bought and used for one summer and then never again.

Tease: In _____ minutes, some of this year’s finalists for the toy hall of fame

American Girl Dolls, Battleship and Masters of the Universe are some of the notable toys nominated for the National Toy Hall of Fame this year. The inductees will be announced November 4th and join the exclusive list of 74 toys that have been inducted thus far. Also up for the honor, Risk, billiards, sand, the toy fire engine, Settlers of Catan and Cabbage Patch Kids. I was more a fan of the Garbage Pail Kids but I was a weird child. (Additional out) I’m gonna have to veto Settlers of Catan because it takes roughly four hours to explain to someone how to play it.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: Ole Miss Head Coach Lane Kiffin weighed in on an age-old debate during a recent interview, stating unequivocally that a hot dog is in fact a sandwich. The ‘is a hot dog a sandwich’ question has divided the internet for years and I, for one, am on team not a sandwich. What do you think, is a hot dog a sandwich?

Contest Tease: Coming up at _____________, how high are they flying? The correct answer wins ________.

[Contest setup] For the first time in history, private citizens are orbiting the earth without any professional astronauts on board to help. SpaceX successfully launched a crew of four from Florida last night who’ll circle the plant until Saturday. How high above earth are they orbiting?

A: 160 miles

B: 260 miles

C: 360 miles

Answer: C, the space tourists are orbiting 360 miles above earth. Or roughly 268 thousand Shaqs above earth.

[DIY Feature] Throwback Thursday Name That Year: I’ll describe the events of a year and the first person to call in and correctly identify it wins ___________. If no one gets it I’ll move on to more clues.

1st break clues: Calvin and Hobbes debut in newspapers, Mikhail Gorbachev becomes the Soviet leader, and this movie hits theaters (Cocoon Clip)

2nd break clues: Boris Becker wins Wimbledon at 17, the first mobile pone call is made in the UK, and this show debuted on TV (The Golden Girls Clip)

Answer: 1985
