Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, how many Americans quit their jobs in August

A record 4.3 million Americans quit their jobs in August. That’s up 2.7% from July according to the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey report released yesterday. That marks the highest quit rate since the report began in late 2000. The number of workers who quit rose by 242,000 from July as more Americans demanded higher pay, better working conditions and more flexible arrangements. Hence why every fast food joint you go to has like one person working and they look like they just ran a marathon. (Additional Out) So a more accurate way of saying it would be, 4.3 million people quit their crappy jobs to look for less crappy jobs.

Tease: In ______ minutes, how much Kyrie Irving is losing per game

Kyrie Irving is losing about $380,000 per game by refusing to get vaccinated. Yesterday the Brooklyn Nets GM Sean Marks said that Kyrie’s decision to not comply with New York City’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate left the organization with ‘no choice’ but to send him away from the team until he’s able to fully participate. Missing a whole year would forfeit his entire $33 million-dollar salary. So he’s got 16 and a half million reasons to get each shot. (Additional Out) And leave the Nets with only two of the best five players in the league.

Tease: Coming up at _____, why the FDA wants us to drastically cut our salt intake

The FDA wants Americans to drastically cut salt out of our diets to lower rates of heart disease. Over the next 2 and a half years the FDA has asked food manufacturers and restaurants to cut the overall sodium in their products by 12 percent. Current dietary guidelines recommend adults consume no more than 2,300 milligrams of sodium per day, but the average American consumes about 3,400 milligrams a day. If you’re wondering what foods are high in sodium, basically its everything that tastes really good. (Additional out) That’s why every time someone asks me to pass the salt I throw it across the room and yell ‘not on my watch buddy’.

Tease: In _____ minutes, this pop star is standing up for extraterrestrials

Demi Lovato says its derogatory to refer to extraterrestrials as ‘aliens’. The pop star who identifies as nonbinary has a docuseries on Peacock titled Unidentified with Demi Lovato that explores what life there may be beyond this planet. In an interview Lovato explained that they believe that beings from other planets do not intend to harm humans. Then why did Will Smith have to punch one in the face and Randy Quaid sacrifice himself just to save President Bill Pullman and company? (Additional out) Tell that to my uncle who’s been abducted and probed twice.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: A new survey of adult Americans found that 39.4% admit to never working out or vigorously exercising in a given week. 22.5% say they work out 1 to 2 times per week, 19.6% 3 to 4 times, 10.6% 5 to 6 times and only 7.8% work out every day. What about you, are you working out more or less since the pandemic began and how often do you work out or vigorously exercise in a week?

Contest Tease: Coming up at _____________, how many of us have watched this? The correct answer wins ________.

[Contest setup] Squid Game is now officially Netflix’s biggest-ever series at launch. According to the streaming giant, how many accounts have now streamed the global phenomenon?

A: 105 million

B: 111 million

C: 117 million

Answer: B, the South Korean show Squid Game has already been viewed by 111 million accounts. I say they follow it up with a Squid Game-Tiger King mash up and break the internet for good.

[DIY Feature] What in the World Wednesday: I’ll give you riddle clues about a place, person or thing and the first person to guess it correctly wins _________. If no one gets it I’ll give you more clues.

Hint: Place

Clue 1: There are 275 species of them in the world, the Eastern gray is the most prevalent in the US with a population of roughly 2 billion

Clue 2: They can smell and find food buried under a foot of snow

Clue 3: They help the tree population by not digging up all of their buried nuts

Answer: California

Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, the final straw for this NFL head coach

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden has resigned after more offensive emails were revealed from when he worked as an ESPN analyst. Just days after reports of his emails from ten years prior containing racial slurs, more emails emerged showing homophobic and misogynistic language. Gruden was 4 years into a 10-year, $100 million dollar deal. In a statement issued by the team Gruden said, I love the Raiders and do not want to be a distraction’ adding ‘I’m sorry, I never meant to hurt anyone.’ Something tells me there’s a lot of NFL coaches clearing out their sent boxes today. (Additional Out) Including Frank Caliendo who lost one of his best impressions.

Tease: In ______ minutes, this state just banned ALL Covid vaccine business mandates

Businesses in Texas are being told not to enforce any Covid vaccine mandates. Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order yesterday saying that while the vaccine is safe and effective ‘it should be voluntary.’ This comes as federal rules are about to begin for companies with more than 100 workers. American and Southwest Airlines are based in Texas and have said they will comply with the new federal mandate. I assume they’re confident that when Matthew McConaughey takes over, he’ll reverse it. (Additional Out) Because last time I checked their planes fly to other places besides Texas.

Tease: Coming up at _____, gas prices continue to rise

The national average price for gasoline hit a seven-year high of $3.27 a gallon yesterday, up 7 cents in the past week along. Now that the world has reopened energy demand is back but the supply hasn’t kept up. Unfortunately, the prices are likely to go up further due to this global energy crisis. Wait your turn energy, we have no bandwidth for another global crisis yet. (Additional out) As we inch closer to the Mad Max phase of human existence.

Tease: In _____ minutes, this show's second longest winning streak has come to an end

Matt Amodio’s Jeopardy! streak has come to an end. The Yale graduate student ended his run last night with 38 straight wins. Amodio racked up more than 1.5 million-dollars and correctly answered 1,299 correct clues along the way. It’s the second longest streak in Jeopardy! history behind Ken Jennings 74-game winning streak. Meaning Matt was on the show 35 more times than Mike Richards hosted. (Additional out) I’ll take people you don’t want to invite to game night for $1,000 Mayim.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos defends Dave Chappelle and his right to ‘artistic freedom’ in a letter to his staff. Dave has come under fire for his newest stand-up special The Closer over backlash to jokes he made about the LGTBQ community. The CEO’s statement comes after Dear White People executive producer Jaclyn Moore said she would be boycotting working with the streamer while organizations such as The National Black Justice Coalition and GLAAD have called for Netflix to take it down. What do you think, did Chapelle go to far?

Contest Tease: Coming up at _____________, which one of these villains came in at number one? The correct answer wins ________.

[Contest setup] A new study looked at psychological data to determine the scariest horror movie villain. Participants in the study watched 5,760 minutes of horror films while wearing a heart rate device. Plus, they surveyed an additional 990 people. According to their findings, who is the scariest horror movie villain?

A: Michael Myers

B: Freddy Krueger

C: Jason Vorhees

Answer: A, Halloween villain Michael Myers took the top spot as scariest villain followed by Jason Vorhees and Freddy Krueger. Give me any of those three instead of The Ring girl or the Children of the Corn kids any day.

[DIY Feature] Knockout Trivia Tuesday: I’ll ask a question on air, if you call in and correctly answer it you’ll have twenty seconds to answer three more questions to win ________. If no one gets it, we’ll move on to round 2.

Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, whistleblower calls out capitol police leaders for this

A whistleblower is calling out capitol police leaders for their ‘shocking inaction’ on January 6th. The former high-ranking official sent a sixteen-page letter to congress accusing two of the force’s top-level leaders of not sharing vital intelligence with other police leadership and not acting to help officers once the violence began on the January 6th insurrection. But in their defense how were they supposed to know what was going on other than watching Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or any TV channel on the planet. (Additional Out) Or as GOP house member Andrew Clyde calls it the day of the ‘normal tourist visit’.

Tease: In ______ minutes, what’s open and closed today

Today is Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples’ so most government agencies and buildings are closed, virtually all banks and the post office . For the most part everything else is open though, including grocery stores, Walmart, Target Starbucks, national parks, FedEx and UPS. Who all chose not to close for a holiday we’re arguing about what to call. (Additional Out) As usual I will celebrate Columbus Day by pretending to discover my neighbor’s hot tub and declaring it for my own.

Tease: Coming up at _____, good covid news

The average rate of daily new Covid-19 cases in the US dropped below 100,000 to 93,814 as of Sunday. Some health experts are still calling for vaccine requirements on airlines ahead of holiday travel to lessen the threat of another winter spike. But many agree that some fall fun, like outdoor trick-or-treating can be comfortably enjoyed with minimal virus risk. So unlike last year you won’t have to crack a window and throw the candy at the neighborhood kids. (Additional out) Just remember my rules, if you’re old enough to drive and/or don’t even wear a costume, you’re too old for my free candy.

Tease: In _____ minutes, McDonald’s is handing out free ‘thank you’ meals to these Americans

McDonald’s is offering free ‘Thank You’ meals to teachers across the country. From today through October 15th any educator, including teachers, administrators, and school staff can go to McDonald’s to receive their breakfast meal. Last they gave 12 million free meals to first responders and health care workers. Hopefully next they’ll honor the unsung heroes of the pandemic, people who didn’t hoard toilet paper. (Additional out) All it took was one year of homeschooling for all of us to fully appreciate how hard it is to be a teacher.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: Kim Kardashian West hosted SNL on Saturday and several big-name celebrities made cameo appearances. Kim used the monologue to poke fun at herself and her inner circle, comment on her divorce and make a few OJ jokes. For the most part critics think she held her own, with the Washington Post saying Kim ‘breathed life into SNL’. What do you think, did you watch and if so was she funny or not?

Contest Tease: Coming up at _____________, how fast did this guy get his lawnmower to go? The correct answer wins ________.

[Contest setup] A British engineer now holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s fastest lawnmower. Tony Edwards says he started planning to build the riding mower from scratch around two years ago. How fast does the mower go?

A: 63 miles per hour

B: 103 miles per hour

C: 143 miles per hour

Answer: C, Tony’s lawnmower reportedly reaches speeds of 143 miles-per-hour. The record holder for world’s slowest mower still belongs to my neighbor Karl who mows his lawn at 5am every Saturday.

[DIY Feature] Name that Movie Monday: I’ll give you a clue and play a short clip, the first person to call in and correctly identify the movie wins ________. If no one gets it I’ll move on to another clue and a slightly longer clip.

Clue #1: 2004 psychological horror film

Clue #2: A remake of a Japanese horror film

Clue #3: Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jason Behr and Bill Pullman

Answer: The Grudge

Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, a handful of Republicans join Democrats on the debt ceiling deal

Eleven Senate Republicans broke ranks to vote with all Democrats and overcome a filibuster so that the debt ceiling deal could move forward. The House will now have to approve the extension in a vote Tuesday before its sent to Biden for his signature. The deal reportedly increases the debt ceiling by $480 billion, which is how much the Treasury Department told Congress it would need to get to December 3rd. So we can get bipartisan deals done, provided they’re only for 57 days. (Additional Out) Hopefully somebody did their math right.

Tease: In ______ minutes, Tesla is moving its headquarters

Tesla will move its headquarters to Austin, Texas according to Elon Musk. The CEO made the announcement that the electric car company would make the move in a shareholders meeting yesterday. Currently Tesla is based in Palo Alto, California. Musk added there is a “limit to how big you can scale in the bay area.” This of course means we’ll get to see another eccentric billionaire try to pull off a cowboy hat. (Additional Out) Plus, now he’ll have more time to smoke pot with Joe Rogan.

Tease: Coming up at _____, good news for recent college grads

Hiring for recent college graduates has surged. A year after a jobs bust, college students are finding a boom. The New York Times reports that this year college seniors and recent graduates are in great demand as companies revive recruiting, underscoring the economic premium that comes with a diploma. Unless you work in broadcasting. (Additional out) So now mom and dad might finally get their basement back.

Tease: In _____ minutes, another company offering cheaper edge of space balloon trips

You’ll soon be able to take a balloon ride to space for just $50,000. Stratospheric ballooning company World View out of Arizona has just opened reservations to get in line for epic five-day balloon voyages that promise to take travelers 100,000 feet above some of the most magnificent landmarks on the planet. The company’s first commercial flights begin in early 2024. Another company in Florida, Space Perspective, also hopes to start balloon flights to the edge of space in 2024, but they’re charging $125,000 a seat instead of 50k. And as we all know, when you’re taking a balloon to space its always a good idea to go with the cheaper option. (Additional out) Step one raise fifty grand, step two get over my rational fear of going up 100,000 feet in a balloon.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: Tinder has introduced a new feature that it hopes will be a dating app game changer. They’ve partnered with Lyft to allow Tinder users to buy a ride for their matches without ever leaving the app. What do you think, where does Tinder rank and what’s the best dating app for singles?

Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, a big new clue in Brian Laundrie’s whereabouts

Police found the remnants of a campsite that appeared to be used recently at the Carlton reserve near Brian Laundrie’s family home. Laundrie is suspected of killing his fiancé Gabby Petito in Wyoming before returning to Florida. Investigators believe he’s been hiding out in the 24,565-acre wilderness reserve for nearly a month. That’s a lot of pooping in the woods. (Additional Out) Remember though, Brian is innocent until proven guilty, but innocent people don’t typically spend a month sleeping with the gators to evade capture.

Tease: In ______ minutes, the three potentially deadly trends going viral on TikTok

The Lug Nut Challenge, the Slap a Teacher Challenge and Scalp Popping are three new ill-advised, dangerous challenges going viral on TikTok that could cause serious injury or death. The Lug Nut Challenge is to loosen a car’s lug nuts to see what happens, the Slap a Teacher Challenge is just what it sounds like and Scalp Popping involves grabbing your hair or someone else’s and pulling so hard that the skin making a popping sound on their skull. Just when you think internet challenges can’t possibly get any dumber, a new one arrives and proves you wrong. (Additional Out) Apparently Hell’s social media department has been working overtime recently.

Tease: Coming up at _____, the Senate is about to punt

Lawmakers look to buy some time on the debt ceiling. Last night Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell said that bipartisan talks are underway to finish a deal to extend the debt ceiling for two months. Democratic leaders favor this method, since it would allow them to continue working on Biden’s costly economic agenda without the risk of the US defaulting on its debts. So they can continue fighting amongst themselves for another two months. (Additional out) Because we all know the Senate’s motto, why do today what you can do in two months.

Tease: In _____ minutes, why a California man is suing a psychic

A California man is suing an L.A. psychic for fraud after she failed to remove a witch’s curse his ex put on him. According to the lawsuit Mauro Restrepo participated in a reading from Sophia Adams who told him his ex-girlfriend had hired a witch to cast a curse on him. Restrepo then paid $5,000 for Adams to remove the curse, but nothing changed and he continues to suffer from anxiety and sleeplessness. But in his defense, the psychic should’ve seen the lawsuit coming. (Additional out) I can’t imagine why his girlfriend left him.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: Burger King is testing out Impossible nuggets. On October 11th, two years after they launched the Impossible Whopper, the fast food chain will begin selling a plant-based chicken nugget option in select restaurants. What do you think, where do Burger King’s current chicken nuggets rank and who has the best fast food chicken nuggets?

Contest Tease: Coming up at _____________, how many of these does the US have? The correct answer wins ________.

[Contest setup] For the first time in four years, The State Department released the number of nuclear warheads the US has in its stockpile. How many nuclear warheads do we currently have?

A: 375

B: 3,750

C: 37,500

Answer: C, the US has 3,750 nuclear warheads in its stockpile. Enough to wipe out everyone on earth a few times over, but not enough to fend off the impending alien invasion, oops I’ve said too much.

[DIY Feature] Throwback Thursday Name That Year: I’ll describe the events of a year and the first person to call in and correctly identify it wins ___________. If no one gets it I’ll move on to more clues.

1st break clues: The Tiananmen Square Massacre happened in China, Toyota launches its luxury brand Lexus, and this movie hit theaters (Honey I Shrunk the Kids Clip)

2nd break clues: George Bush Sr. becomes president of the US, the Oakland Athletics swept the San Francisco Giants to win the World Series, and this show debuted on TV (Seinfeld Clip)

Answer: 1989

Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, Biden’s new number

President Biden has urged Democrats to shoot for a range of $1.9 to $2.2 trillion to pair down the $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation plan and appease moderates. That likely means lots of cuts in proposed programs like free community college, universal pre-K and paid family leave. Or, lawmakers could choose to delay or truncate programs to lower the cost. Who cares about the price tag, its all Monopoly money at this point anyway. (Additional Out) As they work hard to find that sweet spot that won’t get them killed in the midterms.

Tease: In ______ minutes, the best restaurant in the world

Noma in Copenhagen, Denmark won the top spot at this year’s World’s 50 Best Restaurant Awards. Another Copenhagen restaurant, Geranium, took 2nd. Two restaurants in Lima Peru made the top 10 this year. Overall, six American restaurants made the top 50, three in New York and three in California. Good luck getting a reservation at any of those six anytime soon. (Additional Out) When I was a kid I thought Red Lobster was the nicest restaurant on the planet, I kind of miss those days.

Tease: Coming up at _____, what the Facebook whistleblower told the Senate

Facebook harms children, stokes division and weakens our democracy. That’s what Frances Haugen, the Facebook whistleblower, told a Senate subcommittee yesterday in a highly anticipated hearing. Haugen also claimed that Facebook knows how to make its product safer, but chooses not to in favor of profit. What? A big tech company choosing money over safety, stop the presses. (Additional out) Republicans and Democrats finally agree on something, their hatred for Facebook.

Tease: In _____ minutes, we have a new entry for dumbest criminal of the year

If you’re selling catalytic converters online, you probably shouldn't include meth in the photo. That’s exactly what a Missouri man did, leading to his inevitable arrest. On Facebook Marketplace he posted a photo of a catalytic converter and in the background you can clearly see a bag of meth, a large spoon, a syringe and a scale. Maybe he was selling the meth and forgot to hide the catalytic converter. (Additional out) I’m assuming he sold the catalytic converter with the side of meth in roughly ten seconds.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: The MLB playoffs are underway and the Boston Red Sox have snuck in after defeating the New York Yankees in the AL Wildcard Game last night. Fox Sports gives the Dodgers the best chance to win it all this year, followed by the Astros, Rays, Giants and White Sox. What do you think, who will win the World Series this year?

Contest Tease: Coming up at _____________, how much are these pretend contestants fighting for? The correct answer wins ________.

[Contest setup] The new Netflix show ‘Squid Game’ is on pace to become the streaming giant’s most-watched show ever. In the fictitious show hundreds of broke contestants compete in a deadly series of games for a cash jackpot of 45.6 billion won, South Korea’s currency. Roughly how much is that in US dollars?

A: 38.4 million

B: 384 million

C: 3.84 billion

Answer: A, 45.6 billion won is around 38.4 million in US dollars. Not quite enough to make me compete to the death, but close.

[DIY Feature] What in the World Wednesday: I’ll give you riddle clues about a place, person or thing and the first person to guess it correctly wins _________. If no one gets it I’ll give you more clues.

Hint: Animal

Clue 1: There are 275 species of them in the world, the Eastern gray is the most prevalent in the US with a population of roughly 2 billion

Clue 2: They can smell and find food buried under a foot of snow

Clue 3: They help the tree population by not digging up all of their buried nuts

Answer: Squirrels

Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, was this a sign of Facebook’s decline?

Facebook and its apps, including Instagram and WhatsApp, were down for more than five hours yesterday. Ironically this happened a day after a Facebook whistleblower spoke out publicly for the first time on 60 Minutes. New York Times technology columnist, Kevin Roose argues that these are signs that Facebook is a company in decline. The more than five-hour downtime was the company’s worst outage since 2008. Tragically forcing office workers everywhere to actually work on a Monday. (Additional Out) I’m sure conspiracy theorists won’t read anything into that.

Tease: In ______ minutes, the Earth is dimming

Our planet isn’t as bright as it once was. Researchers who have been studying the cosmos for the last two decades recently discovered that the Earth has been dimming at a noticeable pace in the last few years. To determine this they measured the ‘earthshine’ which occurs when ‘the dark face of the moon catches Earth’s reflected glow and returns that light.’ I’ll put that on the list of things I would be worried about if I was smart enough to understand it. (Additional Out) Who knew the sun had a dimmer switch.

Tease: Coming up at _____, a weather delay in a domed stadium

The Raiders-Chargers Monday Night Football game was delayed due to a lightning storm despite being in the new domed multi-billion-dollar SoFi Stadium. Raiders coach John Gruden could be seen on the sideline just as confused as everyone watching at home as one of the refs tried to explain it to him. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was on hand and the NFL made the call to delay the start because while the stadium has a roof, they determined that it’s open sides posed a risk. Sounds like 5 billion dollars well spent. (Additional out) Because as we all know lighting tends to strike from the side.

Tease: In _____ minutes, this show will likely become Netflix’s biggest show ever

South Korean survival thriller Squid Game is on track to become the biggest show ever on Netflix. The nine-episode series hasn’t even been out three weeks yet and it’s already number one in 90 countries. It’s so popular in fact, that Netflix is being sued for the massive increase in internet traffic by a Korean internet provider. The writer and director of Squid Game previously said he had no plans for a second season but appears to have changed his mind, now hinting that the story might continue. IE, someone sent him a big fat check. (Additional out) That’s how you know you’ve made it, when people start suing you.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer apologized to the team and his family over a viral video that shows the married father of three getting grinded on by a woman at a bar. In Meyers apology he called the incident ‘Just stupid,’ adding I ‘Should not have myself in that kind of position.’ A second alternate angle shows him getting handsy with the woman at the bar. What do you think, is a lap dance cheating?

Contest Tease: Coming up at _____________, what percentage of Americans say they’re ready to do this again next month? The correct answer wins ________.

[Contest setup] Stores nationwide are gearing up for a big Black Friday this year after more than a year and a half dealing with the pandemic. According to a new survey, what percentage of American consumers say they’re willing to show up in person for Black Friday deals this year?

A: 57%

B: 67%

C: 77%

Answer: C, a whopping 77% say they’re willing to show up in person for their Black Friday deals this year. Count me in, because if there’s one thing I’ve missed, it’s waking up at 4am and standing in line for hours to save fifty bucks on a TV.

[DIY Feature] Knockout Trivia Tuesday: I’ll ask a question on air, if you call in and correctly answer it you’ll have twenty seconds to answer three more questions to win ________. If no one gets it, we’ll move on to round 2.

Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, where the super-rich hide their investments

Hiding their money in mansions, exclusive beachfront properties and yachts are some of the ways the super-wealthy avoid taxes. A Washington Post review of 12 million files known as the Pandora papers revealed how the wealthy including 30 world leaders, 300 public officials, 100 billionaires, celebrities, religious leaders and drug dealers hide billions from tax authorities. Of course they do, how else will they afford their phallic-shaped space rockets. (Additional Out) That’s why when you say ‘tax the rich’ what you’re really saying is ‘tax the kind of rich’.

Tease: In ______ minutes, how Brady just solidified his GOAT status

Tom Brady became the NFL’s career passing leader last night. After defeating his former team in Gillette Stadium, Brady now has 80,650 career yards passing. A 28-yard completion to Mike Evans pushed the seven-time Super Bowl champion passed former NFL passing leader Drew Brees who was in attendance. Not bad for a 6th round draft pick. (Additional Out) Wearing a suit and his new hair plugs.

Tease: Coming up at _____, this film devoured the box office

Over the weekend Venom: Let There Be Carnage became the biggest US opening of the pandemic and the second highest October opening ever. The sequel featuring Tom Hardy as a ravenous alien blew past expectations to earn an estimated $90.1 million at the North American box office this weekend. I’ll wait to watch it at home so I can put the subtitles on and understand Tom Hardy’s grunts and mumbles. (Additional out) Overcoming a pandemic, a shift to streaming and a thin plot.

Tease: In _____ minutes, an NFL head coach was caught on camera doing this at a bar

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer can be seen being grinded on by a woman at a bar in a viral video. The married father of three was in his home state of Ohio last week to take on the Cincinnati Bengals. The video shows Meyer sitting at a bar while a woman dances up on him while his right hand is hidden next to her. Sadly, it’s the first exciting thing the Jaguars have done all year. (Additional out) Not cool, everyone knows lap dances are for winners.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: TikTok is influencing more than just our clothes, makeup and dance moves, its also making an impact on where we eat. According to a new survey 36% of TikTok users reported visiting or ordering food from a restaurant that they had seen on the platform. What about you, have you ever eaten somewhere because of food you saw posted on TikTok?

Contest Tease: Coming up at _____________, how many of these do Americans eat each year? The correct answer wins ________.

[Contest setup] Today is National Taco Day and you can score freebies at Taco Bell, Del Taco, El Pollo and many others. According to National Taco Day dot com, how many tacos did Americans consume last year?

A: 4.5 million

B: 4.5 billion

C: 45 billion

Answer: B, last year Americans ate just over 4.5 billion tacos. I do my part ever Tuesday and at least four or five other days each week.

[DIY Feature] Name that Movie Monday: I’ll give you a clue and play a short clip, the first person to call in and correctly identify the movie wins ________. If no one gets it I’ll move on to another clue and a slightly longer clip.

Clue #1: Early 80s horror film

Clue #2: The Overlook Hotel

Clue #3: Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall

Answer: The Shining

Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, how the shutdown was avoided at the last minute

Biden signed a short-term deal to avert a shutdown last night and extend government funding through December 3rd. But, Democrats remain deeply divided over the presidents legislative agenda. Progressives defied pressure from Speaker Pelosi and refused to pass a $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill without Senate action on a broader companion $3.5 trillion bill. Turns out this whole governing thing isn’t as easy as it sounds. (Additional Out) Plus, the actual leader of the Senate, Joe Manchin, finally committed to a number he’d support.

Tease: In ______ minutes, the Super Bowl halftime show has been announced

Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar will headline the Super Bowl LVI halftime show. The five headliner show will air Sunday February 13th during the Pepsi halftime show marking the first time five artists have performed onstage together according to the press release. That’s a great lineup, said everyone in 1997. (Additional Out) Unless you count literally any band that’s played it.

Tease: Coming up at _____, a new pill to fight Covid

Merck announced a pill to fight Covid-19. The pharmaceutical company says their new pill cuts the risk of hospitalization or death from Covid-19 by half in a study. If approved by the FDA for emergency authorization use, it would become the first oral antiviral for Covid-19. If only they had a pill that let me go back in time and buy Merck stock yesterday. (Additional out) Finally a solution for people who blame their hesitancy on something they saw on Facebook but are really just scared of needles.

Tease: In _____ minutes, when the McRib will return

The McRib is back nationwide on November 1st. McDonald’s announced the return of the popular limited-time offering to menus 30 days from now. It will also mark the 40th anniversary of the McRib, which was a dud on debut but bounced back to become a fan favorite. Because of McDonald’s brilliant marketing ploy of denying it to us for 10 months out of the year. (Additional out) Despite the fact that it’s not actually made of rib meat.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: Want to book an interesting Halloween getaway? Well here’s your chance. The original ‘Scream’ house is now on AirBnB and available to book. The infamous home where ‘Ghostface’ was first defeated is in Northern California. To add to the experience visitors will be greeted virtually by Sheriff Dewey Riley, played by David Arquette, and they can cue up a marathon of all four Scream films on VHS to stay true to the time period. What do you think, where does the original Scream house rank and what’s the best horror movie house of all time? The Hill House from the Haunting of Hill House, the Perron Home from the Conjuring, the Cabin from Cabin in the Woods, the MacNeil House from the Exorcist, the Overlook Hotel from the Shining, the Freeling House from Poltergeist or something else?

Contest Tease: Coming up at _____________, which one of these crazy animal encounters isn’t real? The correct answer wins ________.

[Contest setup] It was a good week for odd animal and human interactions. Which one of these animal encounters from this week isn’t real?

B: Florida man used a garbage can to successfully trap a gator

C: Brown bear lives in Alaska woman’s spare bedroom for two days without her noticing

Answer: C, a Brown bear didn’t take up residence in an Alaska woman’s spare bedroom but pop star Shakira did get attacked by purse stealing wild boars and a Florida man did use a garbage can to trap an alligator. Plus, in true Florida Man style he did it in socks and sandals.

Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, when the shutdown could go into effect

Tonight at midnight the government will shut down unless lawmakers are able to reach some sort of stopgap bill to avoid it. Last night Chuck Schumer said that a deal had been reached and both the Senate and House will likely vote on a continuing resolution today to keep the government funded at current levels for a set period of time. Time to break out the duct tape and bailing wire and patch this thing together. (Additional Out) Ah the old ‘kick the can down the road’ approach, I know it well.

Tease: In ______ minutes, the latest Netflix obsession

Squid Game is the latest Netflix show to get a lot of buzz. It’s a South Korean fictional drama where contestants who are deeply in debt play children’s games in order to win a ton of cash. But, you guessed it, there’s a downside. If the contestant loses, they die. I give it two years before Fox makes this an actual reality show here in the US. (Additional Out) That’s some pretty high stakes Duck Duck Goose.

Tease: Coming up at _____, vaccine firings go into effect

Today is the deadline for healthcare workers in California to get vaccinated or get fired. Since the mandate was announced 800 additional workers at LA’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center have been vaccinated bringing the hospitals vaccination rate up to 97%. When New York State announced a similar mandate in August 75% of health care workers had received a shot, by this week 92% have. Believe it or not, threatening someone’s livelihood tends to work. (Additional out) The other 8% will take their chances with the cow dewormer.

Tease: In _____ minutes, a Louisiana family wakes up multi-billionaires

A Louisiana family woke up to become the 25th richest people on the planet. Darren James received a frantic call from his wife over the weekend informing him that $50 billion had been deposited in their bank account. However Darren, who was previously in law enforcement, did the right thing and contacted Chase Bank to inform them of the error. The 47-year-old Baton Rouge native told Fox “It was there Saturday, Sunday, Monday and gone Tuesday’, adding so ‘I was a billionaire for four days.’ Because finders keepers isn’t an actual law. (Additional out) That’s when I would’ve told the bank, “Sorry, I’m gonna have to charge you a two million dollar convenience fee.’

Phone Topic/Web Poll: Bacon prices have skyrocketed and they are unlikely to go down anytime soon. Even accounting for inflation, bacon is more expensive for Americans than it has been in 40 years. The average price for bacon has jumped nearly 28% during the past 12 months. Supply chain issues and panic buying are to blame. What’s your go to way to cook bacon? Microwave, oven or stovetop?

Contest Tease: Coming up at _____________, who was originally supposed to play this role in an iconic early 2000’s comedy? The correct answer wins ________.

[Contest setup] Ben Stiller revealed the shocking original ‘Zoolander’ cast. In a recent profile with Esquire celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Ben Stiller/Owen Wilson classic Stiller, who directed the film, revealed that a young Jake Gyllenhaal was almost cast as Hansel. Who did Stiller say was originally supposed to play Mugatu, the role that ultimately went to Will Ferrell?

A: Christopher Walken

B: Andy Dick

C: Vince Vaughn

Answer: B, comedian Andy Dick was the first choice to play Mugatu. Which would’ve forever changed the film that taught us that ‘just because we have chiselled abs and stunning features, it doesn’t mean that we too can’t die in a freak gasoline fight accident.’

[DIY Feature] Throwback Thursday Name That Year: I’ll describe the events of a year and the first person to call in and correctly identify it wins ___________. If no one gets it I’ll move on to more clues.

1st break clues: The Atari 2600 was released in the US, Brazilian soccer star Pele played his final professional game, and this show debuted on TV (The Love Boat Clip)

2nd break clues: Elvis Presley died, Jimmy Carter takes over as President, and this movie hit theaters (Saturday Night Fever Clip)

Answer: 1977

Darren James received a frantic call from his wife over the weekend informing him that $50 billion had been deposited in their bank account. However Darren, who was previously in law enforcement, did the right thing and contacted Chase Bank to inform them of the error. The 47-year-old Baton Rouge native told Fox “It was there Saturday, Sunday, Monday and gone Tuesday’, adding so ‘I was a billionaire for four days.’ Because finders keepers isn’t an actual law.

5) Ben Stiller revealed the shocking original ‘Zoolander’ cast. A) Christopher Walken, B) Andy Dick or C) Vince Vaughn. Answer: B, comedian Andy Dick was the first choice to play Mugatu. Which would’ve forever changed the film that taught us that ‘just because we have chiselled abs and stunning features, it doesn’t mean that we too can’t die in a freak gasoline fight accident.’
