Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, vaccinated people can now travel here

The EU has agreed to open its borders to fully vaccinated foreign travelers. Yesterday ambassadors from the 27 EU countries approved a European Commission proposal to loosen the criteria to determine ‘safe’ countries and to let in fully vaccinated tourists from elsewhere. The US does not meet their ‘safe country’ standard but Americans with proof of vaccination will be welcomed. Once they’ve scanned for our microchips. (Additional Out) Reason number 1,001 to get vaccinated.

Tease: In ______ minutes, a new study about the effects of any amount of alcohol

Drinking any amount of alcohol causes damage to the brain according to a new study. Researchers from the University of Oxford studied the relationship between the alcohol intake of 25,000 people in the UK and their brain scans. They found that drinking any alcohol had an effect on the brain’s gray matter regions where information is processed. According to my own extensive research it also negatively impacts the parts of the brain responsible for determining how attractive and/or interesting the person you’re talking to is. (Additional Out) Thankyou buzzkill scientists, but we don’t drink for health reasons, we drink to not feel feelings.

Tease: Coming up at _____, LeBron’s still got it

LeBron James hit a game-winner to send the Lakers to the playoffs. With 58 seconds left on the clock King James sunk a 34-foot three-pointer to put LA ahead of the Golden State Warriors 103 to 100. That handed the defending champs a spot in the playoffs against the number 2 seed Phoenix Suns. LeBron should also win an Oscar for his acting after being hit by Draymond Green. (Additional out) Further reminder that there’s no point in watching anything but the last three minutes of a basketball game.

Tease: In _____ minutes, when we’ll have to get booster shots

A Covid-19 booster shot will likely be needed within a year of initial vaccination to keep up immunity according to Dr. Anthony Fauci. However, he added that variant-specific boosters may not be needed. Fauci said, ‘We know that the vaccine efficacy lasts at least six months, and likely considerably more, but I think we will almost certainly require a booster sometime within a year or so after getting the primary.’ Bad news for people who hate needles, good news for people who own Pfizer or Moderna stock.  (Additional out). So, I guess we all have that to look forward to for the remainder of our lives.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: This week a report by AirInsightGroup revealed that airlines might soon start weighing some passengers before commercial flights, or at the very least asking passengers their weight. The report also cites the fact that Americans are getting heftier as a reason for the change. For safety, carriers need to calculate an aircraft’s weight and balance to make sure it’s within allowable limits for the plane. What do you think, should airlines weigh passengers?
