Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, the word that won the national spelling bee

Murraya, a type of tree, was the word Zaila Avant-garde spelled to win the 2021 Scripps National Spelling Bee yesterday. With the win 14-year-old Zaila becomes the first African American contestant to win in the 93 editions of the competition. 209 spellers competed spelling words like ‘nepeta’, ‘querimonious’ and ‘solindungulate.’ And I was proud that I finally learned how to spell library and Wednesday. (Additional Out) Can you use it in a sentence? No, I cannot, you’re on your own.

Tease: In ______ minutes, 42 points from their star wasn’t enough

Despite 42 points from the Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Phoenix Suns won game 2 of the NBA finals. Timely 3 pointers by the Suns’ Devin Booker held off a Bucks’ comeback attempt in the 118-108 win. The Suns now lead the best of 7 series 2 to 0. Game 3 is this Sunday in Milwaukee. Looks like this time the Suns in 4 guy might be right. (Additional Out) A city famous for baseball, bikes and my personal favorite, beer.

Tease: Coming up at _____, Americans were involved in this political assasination

Two Americans were part of the two dozen ‘professional killers’ involved in the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moise. The group also consisted of retired members of the Colombian military. The assassination leaves a huge power vacuum in Haiti, with two competing prime ministers both claiming to be in charge. Not sure that’s a job I’d jump at the chance to fill right now. (Additional Out) So I assume they’ll flip a coin or rock, paper, scissors it.

Tease: In _____ minutes, flossing your teeth could help your brain

Flossing your teeth may protect against cognitive decline. According to new research from NYU good oral habits like brushing and flossing may prevent cognitive impairment and dementia. Their results showed that adults with more tooth loss had a 1.48 times higher risk of brain diseases and with each additional missing tooth the risk grows. Maybe I should stop lying to my dentist about flossing and actually do it. (Additional out) I assume the research was funded by Crest and Colgate.
