Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, good news about the vaccine and variants

Studies suggest vaccinated people are protected from Covid-19 variants. Two teams of researchers tested two of the new variants against blood taken from people who had received both doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. They both found separately that the vaccines produced strong antibody responses as well as cells that keep producing new antibodies for years. Yet another reason for everyone to get the vaccine so I can one day shop without looking like a ninja. (Additional out) Well done science nerds, well done.

Tease: In ______ minutes, somebody woke up $730 million dollars richer today

A single winning ticket was announced for the $730 million Powerball jackpot last night. That’s the fourth largest prize in Powerball history. The single ticket that matched all six numbers was sold in Maryland. It’s lucky holder will have the choice between an estimated annuity of $731.1 million paid in 30 payments over 29 years or a lump sum of $546.8 million. Either way the IRS will get their cut. (Additional out) I say take the lump sum and head to Vegas, you’re on a roll!

Tease: Coming up at _____, where masks are now federally required

Yesterday Biden signed an executive order mandating masks on federal property. The President has also promised a mask mandate on flights, trains and buses for months and he will likely make that a reality today. It’s not clear when the policy will take effect and how the rule will be enforced. Either way I’m sure anti-maskers won’t overreact to it and star in a few more viral videos. (Additional out) I say for a first offense they’re forced to sit in front of the kid who kicks their seat for the entire trip.

Tease: In _____ minutes, how much Putin’s secret palace on the Black Sea is worth

Vladimir Putin’s 17,691 square foot secret palace on the Black Sea is worth an estimated 1.4 billion. Alexey Navalny, the critic Putin allegedly had poisoned, and his team just released a colossal report on the Russian President’s wealth. According to the report the castle features 11 bedrooms, a movie theater, Las Vegas style casino and two spas. Plus, it’s built in a way that no one can reach it by land, sea or air. Which is great for security but terrible when you order a pizza. (Additional Out) So I’m assuming you can’t rent it on AirBnB.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: The stars came out for President Joe Biden’s inauguration, with Lady Gaga singing the National Anthem, Jennifer Lopez belting America the Beautiful, Garth Brooks performing a heartfelt acapella version of Amazing Grace and America’s first youth poet laureate Amanda Gorman reciting a powerful poem she wrote.  What do you think, who had the best performance?
