Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, this major company has a new CEO

Jeff Bezos has stepped down as the CEO of Amazon. Andy Jassy, who runs Amazon’s cloud computing division, will succeed him. Just weeks after being surpassed by Elon Musk as the world’s richest man, Bezos will relinquish his role and become the executive chairman. I’m assuming so he can spend more time with his money. (Additional out) Looks like someone didn’t like the idea of being number two.

Tease: In ______ minutes, this California town will pay you to visit

Santa Maria, California is paying tourists $100 to visit. The small town near the coast and Santa Barbara is known for barbecue, wineries, beaches and hiking trails. Santa Maria wants to lure tourists back after the state’s stay at home orders have been lifted. So, it’s offering $100 Visa gift cards to use toward a hotel stay. Throw in a bottle of wine and I’m in. (Additional out) That should cover roughly two waters and a soda from the mini-bar.

Tease: Coming up at _____, how long Putin’s biggest critic will spend in prison

Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny has been sentenced to more than two and a half years in prison by a Moscow court. The verdict on politicized charges sparked protests across the country and condemnation abroad. Navalny was first detained two weeks ago after returning to Moscow from Berlin, where he was recovering from poisoning. Hence why you don’t return to the country led by the guy who poisoned you. (Additional out) Then I’m assuming Putin retreated to his secret Bond villain palace in hopes that this will all blow over.

Tease: In _____ minutes, this stock plunged yesterday

GameStop stock fell over 50% yesterday and ended down 81% from it’s peak last week. Other momentum investments made popular by the Reddit crowd also appear to be on hold with AMC, silver prices and silver mining companies all falling sharply. But heavily shorted stocks could rally again, yesterday Mark Cuban urged members of Reddit’s WallStreetBets community to stay the course with stocks like GameStop. Sounds like the guy who bullies everyone on Shark Tank owns some GameStop stock. (Additional Out) But that’s kind of like a dad telling a teenager something’s cool.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: There could be a wing shortage for Super Bowl Sunday. The Georgia Poultry Federation says that high demand during Covid could cause a potential wing shortage. Chicken wing consumption and sales peak right before the big game in February, but wing prices have been high for months because of the pandemic.
