Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, what’s new on Netflix in January

History of Swear Words and Night Talker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer are two of the new things coming to Netflix in January. The first is a documentary hosted by Nicolas Cage that traces the origins of swear words and the other is a true-crime story about infamous serial killer Richard Ramirez. See the full list on our website. Other new shows include Cobra Kai: Season 3 and Fate: the Winx Saga, plus films like Dig, Pieces of a Woman and The White Tiger. Which is perfect because my New Year’s Resolution is to binge-watch even more TV. (Additional out) All of which we’ll debate watching for three hours before giving up and rewatching the Crown.

Tease: In ______ minutes, hospitalization hit a record rate

121,235 patients were hospitalized with Covid-19 in the US yesterday, a new record. With hospitalizations this high, doctors warn hospitals will soon have to begin rationing care. Elsewhere, the new variant discovered in the UK has cropped up in South Korea and India. Plus, new figures released by China reveal the infection rate in Wuhan, where the virus first started, could’ve been ten times higher than the official figure. Which is odd, because it’s not like the Chinese government to lie. (Additional out) All information you can share with the guy yelling at you for still choosing to follow the science and wear a mask.

Tease: Coming up at _____, the stimulus checks might get bigger

The House passed a measure to increase the stimulus checks attached to the new relief bill to $2,000. Something President Trump insisted upon when signing the bill over the weekend, but the measure will likely face a tougher crowd in the Republican-led Senate. The new round of stimulus checks could start being distributed this week. Hopefully it’ll get here just in time for me to put it into a new envelope and send it right back to the IRS. (Additional out) So we can all hand them over to Jeff Bezos to pay for all the Christmas presents we bought from Amazon.

Tease: In _____ minutes, why 190,000 ceiling fans have been recalled

190,000 ceiling fans have been recalled because the blades detach and fly off. King of Fans, a Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based company that makes the 54-inch Mara ceiling fans announced the recall after receiving 47 reports of blades detaching. The Mara fans have been sold at Home Depot stores nationwide. I would assume making sure the blades stay attached is job one when building a ceiling fan. (Additional Out) Customers should stop using the fans immediately and/or film it for TikTok and YouTube.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: A spa in Egypt’s capital of Cairo specializes in snake massages. During the 30-minute session, dozens of non-venomous snakes are allowed to slither over the customer’s body and face. The practice, which is becoming popular in parts of South Asia, is said to help reduce muscle and joint pain, improve circulation and release endorphins. What did you think? Would you get a non-venomous snake massage?

Contest Tease: Coming up at _____________, how much are these toys from our childhood worth? The correct answer wins ________.

[Contest setup] We all spent our youth buying hundreds of one dollar Hot Wheels, but it turns out some of those tiny cars hidden in your parent’s basement could be worth a lot of money. A: $1,500

B: $15,000
