Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, the total number of people evacuated from Afghanistan

122,000 total people were evacuated out of Afghanistan, including 5,400 Americans. Yesterday the last US military planes left, marking the end of the US’ longest war and ushering in a new era of uncertainty for a country under Taliban rule. There are also no US diplomats left in the country, meaning the US Embassy in Kabul will likely suspend operations. Now we’ll enter another twenty years of investigations and finger pointing. (Additional out) I can’t imagine too many diplomats are gonna sign up for that post anytime soon.

Tease: In ______ minutes, how much sleep your brain needs according to science

A new study says you need 7 to 8 hours sleep for your brain to function best and sleeping more or less is bad for the brain. Sleeping less caused study participants to perform worse on tests used to assess cognitive abilities and increases a risk of dementia. While sleeping too much diminishes associative learning skills. Which stinks because it’s my brain that keeps me awake by waiting until bedtime to replay a montage of my failures. (Additional Out) There’s a reason why sleeping pills are a multi-billion-dollar business.

Tease: Coming up at _____, this late night host is making a comeback

Jon Stewart is returning with a new show. The former ‘Daily Show’ host will be on Apple TV plus with his new show ‘The Problem with Jon Stewart’. It will debut September 30th, go multiple seasons and be paired with a podcast. Stewart left the ‘Daily Show’ in 2015. Which seems like decades ago but I’m told that it’s only been six years. (Additional) A year before the show began writing itself.

A Louisiana man has an adorable new pet deer in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida. Daniel Fears documented his experience on Instagram as Ida came through his neighborhood. He shared a post yesterday of the sleeping baby deer saying ‘I’ve always wanted a pet deer. Never thought he’d swim right up to me.’ That’s one way to get your Instagram to blow up. (Additional out) And the first comment is from a female friend of his saying ‘Don’t you dare eat it’.

Phone Topic/Web Poll China has barred children under 18 from playing video games on weekdays. Kids are now limited to just three hours most weekends, plus some time on Friday evenings and public holidays. Authorities say the restrictions are intended to keep young people from getting addicted to playing video games. Obviously that’s too extreme, but what do you think, how many hours a day should parents allow kids to play video games?
