Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, how many people Ida left without power

Hurricane Ida struck Louisiana yesterday, knocking out power for more than one million people. The storm made landfall as a Category 4 and slowed to a near standstill causing widespread devastation. In fact the storm was so strong it temporarily stopped the flow of the Mississippi River near the city and caused it to reverse flow, something the US Geological Survey says is ‘extremely uncommon.’ Sounds like something straight out of the book of Revelation. (Additional out) But then again, extremely uncommon seems to be the new norm.

Tease: In ______ minutes, why a new study says its ok to have that third cup of coffee

Drinking up to three cups of coffee a day may protect your heart according to a new study. Among people with no diagnosis of heart disease, regular coffee consumption of ½ to 3 cups of coffee a day was associated with a decreased risk of death from heart disease, stroke and early death from any cause when compared to non-coffee drinkers. Probably not after I add the pound of sugar and half a bottle of creamer. (Additional Out) Plus it makes you less likely to yell at your coworkers.

Tease: Coming up at _____, scientists discover northernmost island

A Greenland expedition discovered the ‘world’s northernmost island’ recently. Last month scientists set foot on a tiny island off the coast of Greenland that they now believe is the world’s northernmost point of land and was revealed by shifting park ice. So I guess there are some upsides to climate change. (Additional) I’ve seen this horror movie before and it doesn’t end well for them.

Tease: In _____ minutes, the weekend’s big winner at the box office

Candyman topped the box office in it’s opening weekend, earning 22 million dollars in North American theaters. The film directed by Nia DaCosta, and produced by Jordan Peele, is a remake of the 1992 horror classic based on a Clive Barker short story. Candyman currently has an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Good news for a remake of the film that made me avoid mirrors for an entire year as a child. (Additional out) I’m just shocked that 30 years later people are still willing to say Candyman 5 times into a mirror knowing he’s going to pop up and murder them.

Phone Topic/Web Poll If you’re a fan of the TV show Manifest, you’ll be happy to hear that Netflix has saved the missing plane drama. The show was canceled by NBC in June, sparking an online campaign. The #SaveManifest campaign worked, causing the streaming giant to pick up a super-sized 20-episode fourth and final season of the show. What canceled show would you most like to see make a comeback for one last hurrah?

Contest Tease: Coming up at _____________, what time of day should you do this? The correct answer wins ________.

[Contest setup] A new study by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology looked at the health benefits for men of working out at different times during the day. According to their findings, what’s the best time of day to work out?

A: Evening

B: Midday

C: Morning

Answer: A, while the study found that working out any time of the day improved fitness and oxygen uptake, only evening exercise lowered cholesterol and overnight glucose levels which could help burn fat. Unfortunately, that doesn’t match up well with my drinking schedule.
