Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, when a booster shot is recommended for most Americans

Most Americans should get a booster shot 8 months after getting their second Covid vaccine shot. That’s what the Biden administration is expected to advise this week according to reporting from the New York Times. The plan, which is still being developed, would involve administering third shots beginning in mid-to-late September pending authorization from the FDA. IE this thing isn’t going away any time soon. (Additional Out) So we have that to look forward to.

Tease: In ______ minutes, how science is trying to make us invisible to mosquitoes

Using Crispr scientists have taken the first step toward creating a mosquito that is blind to human hosts. Researchers used the gene-editing tool to eliminate two of an Aedes aegypti mosquito’s light sensing receptors, knocking out its ability to visually target hosts. That effectively renders humans invisible to the mosquito. Good news for humanity, bad news for the makers of Off. (Additional Out) Not exactly why I used to fantasize about having the invisibility superpower, but I’ll take it.

Tease: Coming up at _____, why regulators are investigating Tesla

Federal regulators are investigating the autopilot system in Tesla’s electric cars after a series of crashes. At least 11 accidents from 2018 to 2021 involved Tesla cars using self-driving features that crashed into emergency vehicles when coming onto the scene of an earlier crash. Which is why I’ll be waiting for version 2.0 before I buy a robot car. (Additional Out) But in fairness that’s 11 crashes for self-driving cars in three years compared to 15.75 million crashes for human driven cars.

Tease: In _____ minutes, a gator puts on a show for a kids birthday party in Utah

A Utah animal handler is recovering after she was bitten by an alligator over the weekend in West Valley City. Video shows the handler talking about the reptile with kids from a birthday party watching before the gator grabs her left hand and pulls her into the water. Luckily a bystander jumped in to help while the handler calmly told him how to get the gator to let go. Teaching the kids a valuable lesson about handling gators. (Additional out) Hence why you should always feed the gator prior to the show.
