Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, what’s open and closed today

Today is Labor Day celebrating working Americans and the US labor movement. In the event you are off and wanting to get out and about, here’s what’s open and what’s closed. Most grocery stores along with Target, Walmart, pharmacies and theaters are all open. Some of the things that are closed include Costco, the DMV, public libraries, post offices, FedEx, UPS and all banks. Because banks close for all major holidays and several lesser known ones you don’t remember until you’ve driven all the way to the bank. (Additional Out) So basically you can’t deposit a check or mail anything, but you can watch a movie you could’ve just watched at home.

Tease: In ______ minutes, these 8 states have 90% of their ICU beds full

Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi, Nevada and Kentucky all had more than 90% of their adult ICU beds occupied yesterday. A federal medical team arrived in Kentucky this weekend to help increase medical assistance in light of record-breaking coronavirus cases and hospitalizations. Across the US, just under 80% of ICU beds are in use. When we finally get out of this we all need to buy a beer for a health care worker to show our appreciation. (Additional Out) I don’t know about you but I’m not a big fan of this new normal.

Tease: Coming up at _____, this film broke records at the box office

Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is on track to make a record-breaking $75 to $85 million in its opening four-day weekend. That’s a Labor Day weekend record and it beat expectations by at least $30 million. It’s also a good sign for the struggling movie industry that’s recently pushed back other blockbuster releases. Like the Top Gun movie we were supposed to see two freakin’ years ago. (Additional) See Hollywood, all it took was releasing a movie we actually wanted to see.

Tease: In _____ minutes, the incredibly odd thing the Notre Dame coach said to a sideline reporter

Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly bizarrely said he wants his entire team ‘executed’ as he walked off the field after a close win against FSU. After his 9th ranked Notre Dame team held off unranked FSU in overtime Saturday Kelly told a sideline reporter, ‘I’m in favor of execution. Maybe our entire team needs to be executed tonight.’ He later called the odd comment a joke. If that’s what he says after a win, I can't wait to hear him after a loss. (Additional) Clearly he doesn’t know how jokes work.

Phone Topic/Web Poll Many of us spent our Labor Day weekend grilling out in the backyard, since it is the unofficial start off Fall and therefore the last grilling holiday. What’s your all-time favorite Labor Day cookout dish? Burgers, barbecue chicken, corn on the cob, potato salad, macaroni salad, coleslaw, hot dogs, fajitas or something else?
