Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, the states following Texas lead

Republican lawmakers in Arkansas, Florida and South Dakota pledged to enact legislation similar to Texas new heartbeat law. The controversial Texas law bans abortions after six weeks, a date when many women don’t even know they’re pregnant. It was upheld by the Supreme Court this week in a 5-4, one paragraph, middle of the night decision. Because when you’re overturning a 48 year old precedent that 70% of Americans support, its best to do it hastily. (Additional Out) Because elections have consequences.

Tease: In ______ minutes, this band will release their first studio album in 40 years

Abba announced their first studio album in 40 years. The Swedish rock group famous for their 1979 hit ‘Dancing Queen’ will release ‘Voyage’ on November 5th. The band also announced a set of virtual concerts where avatars of the band called ‘Abba-tars’ will perform at a specially built venue in London’s Olympic Park next May. I support any band who’s name is a palindrome. (Additional Out) That’s one way to get around performing as an aging rockstar, use avatars.

Tease: Coming up at _____, Ida’s aftermath

800,000 people are still without power in Louisiana after being hit by Hurricane Ida last Sunday. President Biden will tour the state today to see the damage first hand. Elsewhere, New Yorkers are bracing for another tough commute with some subway service still out after remnants of Hurricane Ida pummeled the Northeast causing historic flooding Wednesday. But luckily hurricane season ends November 30th so we’ll probably only see one or two more 100 year storms by then. (Additional) I miss the good old days when hurricanes would dissipate after making landfall.

Tease: In _____ minutes, this country is banning unmanly men from TV

China will start banning men from appearing on TV if they aren’t manly enough. The Chinese government announced a plan to ban ‘effeminate men’ from television in an initiative to ‘put an end to sissy men’. The TV ban is seen as a reflection of the government’s concern that Chinese pop stars are wielding too much influence over younger citizens. It’s good to see the world’s most populated country focusing on society’s real problems. (Additional) Which would matter if young people still actually watched TV.
