Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, how much Covid cases in children have risen since July

Covid-19 cases among US children have risen almost 240% since July, according to data from the American Academy of Pediatrics. Kids now account for 29% of all cases reported nationwide. Children under 12 are not eligible for a vaccine yet, so advocates are urging parents to get vaccinated to protect their children. I feel bad for these kids, when I was their age all we had to worry about was catching kooties on the playground. (Additional out) As they have been for the past 9 freakin’ months.

Tease: In ______ minutes, why you should update your iPhone immediately

Apple has issued an urgent iPhone software update to address a critical spyware vulnerability. The alert comes after independent researchers found the vulnerability had been exploited by notorious surveillance software to spy on a Saudi activist. So, for once I won’t hit the ‘Remind me in 2 days’ button for 2 straight years. (Additional Out) If they spy on me all they’ll see is me watching hours of cat and puppy TikTok videos.

Tease: Coming up at _____, a company is trying to bring back this ancient creature

An ambitious project to resurrect the wooly mammoth is in the works. The project, led by Harvard geneticist George Church, has secured $15 million in funding to get started. The mammoth disappeared over 10,000 years ago. Is it sad that my first thought is ‘Mmmm, wooly mammoth burger’? (Additional out) This is how it starts, first they bring back the cute furry ones, then someone resurrects a couple of T-Rexes and we all get eaten.

Tease: In _____ minutes, what the final California recall polls say ahead of today’s vote

Polls suggest that California Governor Gavin Newsom will survive today’s recall vote. Republicans began laying the groundwork to argue the election was stolen before a single ballot was reported or a victor declared. Monday a link went live on Republican Larry Elder’s campaign site claiming it had ‘detected fraud resulting in Governor Gavin Newsom being reinstated as Governor.’ So some nerd is getting yelled at today for hitting the live button instead of the schedule button. (Additional out) I wonder where he got that idea.
