Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, whistleblower calls out capitol police leaders for this

A whistleblower is calling out capitol police leaders for their ‘shocking inaction’ on January 6th. The former high-ranking official sent a sixteen-page letter to congress accusing two of the force’s top-level leaders of not sharing vital intelligence with other police leadership and not acting to help officers once the violence began on the January 6th insurrection. But in their defense how were they supposed to know what was going on other than watching Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or any TV channel on the planet. (Additional Out) Or as GOP house member Andrew Clyde calls it the day of the ‘normal tourist visit’.

Tease: In ______ minutes, what’s open and closed today

Today is Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples’ so most government agencies and buildings are closed, virtually all banks and the post office . For the most part everything else is open though, including grocery stores, Walmart, Target Starbucks, national parks, FedEx and UPS. Who all chose not to close for a holiday we’re arguing about what to call. (Additional Out) As usual I will celebrate Columbus Day by pretending to discover my neighbor’s hot tub and declaring it for my own.

Tease: Coming up at _____, good covid news

The average rate of daily new Covid-19 cases in the US dropped below 100,000 to 93,814 as of Sunday. Some health experts are still calling for vaccine requirements on airlines ahead of holiday travel to lessen the threat of another winter spike. But many agree that some fall fun, like outdoor trick-or-treating can be comfortably enjoyed with minimal virus risk. So unlike last year you won’t have to crack a window and throw the candy at the neighborhood kids. (Additional out) Just remember my rules, if you’re old enough to drive and/or don’t even wear a costume, you’re too old for my free candy.

Tease: In _____ minutes, McDonald’s is handing out free ‘thank you’ meals to these Americans

McDonald’s is offering free ‘Thank You’ meals to teachers across the country. From today through October 15th any educator, including teachers, administrators, and school staff can go to McDonald’s to receive their breakfast meal. Last they gave 12 million free meals to first responders and health care workers. Hopefully next they’ll honor the unsung heroes of the pandemic, people who didn’t hoard toilet paper. (Additional out) All it took was one year of homeschooling for all of us to fully appreciate how hard it is to be a teacher.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: Kim Kardashian West hosted SNL on Saturday and several big-name celebrities made cameo appearances. For the most part critics think she held her own, with the Washington Post saying Kim ‘breathed life into SNL’. What do you think, did you watch and if so was she funny or not?
