Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, the WHO says this isn’t a second wave

Covid-19 is spreading in “one big wave” and is not affected by seasonal trends. That’s according to WHO spokesperson Margaret Harris. The US now has more than 4.35 million confirmed cases and we’re approaching 150,000 deaths. Elsewhere, renewed restrictions are being implemented across Europe and Asia amid fresh outbreaks. India has surged past 1.5 million confirmed cases. Russia claims it’s on track to approve a vaccine by mid-august, but the speed of the process raises questions. As does the fact that it’s, you know, Russia. (Additional out) I think I’ll wait for the vaccine made by anybody but Russia.

Tease: In ___ minutes, the Emmy nominations are out and streaming dominated

Netflix has 160 Emmy nominations and new streaming services like Disney Plus and Apple TV did well too. The Emmy nominations were released yesterday during a virtual announcement. HBO’s ‘Watchmen’ was the most nominated series with 26 in all. Trailed closely by Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Netflix’s Ozark, HBO’s Succession and Disney Plus’ the Mandalorian. The 160 Emmy nominations for Netflix is a new record. Of course you throw that much stuff against the wall, something will stick. (Additional out) Now if they can just stop tricking me into getting interested in a series only to figure out it’s dubbed thirty seconds in.

Tease: Coming up at ____, what a Dodger’s pitcher said to an Astro’s hitter that cleared the benches

Dodger’s pitcher Joe Kelly yelled “You gotta cheat to hit” followed by several expletives at Astro’s hitter Carlos Correa, causing the benches to clear last night. Kelly was on the Red Sox team that got beat by the “cheating” Houston Astros team in the 2017 Division Series. Things got heated in the sixth inning when Kelly began throwing at Astro’s players, which Kelly denied doing on purpose when asked after the game. The fact that people still hate the Astros makes me feel like we’re returning to some sense of normalcy. (Additional Out) The virtual fans and pretend crowd noise had no idea how to react.

Tease: Bad news for tall people. I’ll tell you more in _____ minutes

People taller than six feet are twice as likely to contract Covid-19. At least, according to researchers in the UK who studied 2,000 people to try and determine if there are any traits that increase your risk of contracting the virus. They found that people taller than six feet are twice as likely to be infected compared to the general population. Finally, there’s a downside to being tall other than never being able to find pants that fit. (Additional Out) Maybe this news will cause people to stop lying about their height on dating profiles.
