Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, what medical experts are urging the US to do

US medical experts are urging the country to shut down again after four days of more than 1,000 deaths a day. We’ve now reported more than 4.2 million cases, more than a fourth of the 16.2 million Covid -19 cases worldwide. One bright side, the number of new US Covid-19 cases has stabilized over the past week as more Americans wear masks and avoid indoor activities. Luckily avoiding activities is a hobby of mine. (Additional out) Or run the risk of getting famous on the internet.

Tease: In ___ minutes, why some major retailers say the won’t enforce mask mandates

Multiple large retailers say they will not enforce mask mandates following violent confrontations. Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Walgreens, CVS and others say they will no longer prohibit customers who refuse to wear a mask from shopping in their stores. Retail employees are finding themselves playing the uncomfortable role of mask police, leading to confrontations between angry customers and employees. I guess they’d prefer for other customers to just have those confrontations, then film them and put it on the internet. (Additional out). Because it’s hard to force people to care about the health of others.

Tease: Coming up at ____, a multi-million dollar Powerball winner keeps a 28 year old promise

A Powerball winner split his $22 million jackpot with a friend 28 years after promising to share it if he ever won. In 1992, shortly after the Powerball first arrived there, Wisconsin man Thomas Cook and his friend Joseph Feeney shook hands and promised that they’d give half of their prize money to the other man if they ever won. Thomas Cook recently won $22 million and honored that promise he made to his fishing buddy. They plan to take their wives on a road trip together with their winnings. I respect that, I would totally honor that promise, but I’d also bring it up for the remainder of our lives every time I needed to borrow something. (Additional Out) No word on what they’ll do with the other 21.999 mil.

Tease: Protests turn violent over the weekend. I’ll tell you more in _____ minutes

Some protests were largely peaceful over the weekend but a few descended into clashes between law enforcement and demonstrators. In Austin, Texas a protester died after shots were fired. A suspect is in custody and cooperating with police. Portland Federal agents deployed tear gas and flash bangs to disperse protesters wielding leaf blowers, power tools, fireworks and lasers. In Seattle 59 officers were injured and 47 people were arrested. In Louisville, Kentucky demonstrators allegedly threw water bottles at police and 76 people were arrested for blocking off a street with barrels filled with water, bleach and urine. As 2020 continues it’s campaign to be the worst year ever.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: According to a recent survey 75% of Americans are now afraid to use ride sharing apps like Uber and Lyft due to the pandemic. Although the majority of those people say they’d feel safe if the driver wore a facemask and sanitized the vehicle between passengers. What do you think, are you still using Uber and Lyft?
