Tease: Coming up in ___________ minutes, dancing robots

Go to our website to watch Boston Dynamics robots dance to ‘Do You Love Me’. In the stunning dance video that celebrates an incredible engineering achievement while advertising for the robots company, four of their robots perform fully choreographed dance moves to The Countours’ hit “Do You Love Me.’ That way it’ll be cute when they dance on our graves after the robot apocalypse. (Additional out) So we may have botched the pandemic but at least we have dancing robots.

Tease: In ______ minutes, Apple and TikTok remove this party app

Vybe Together, an app that allows people to arrange and attend parties has been taken down by Apple and TikTok. The app has been removed for violating community guidelines about virus misinformation. Vybe Together’s slogan is “Get your rebel on. Get your party on.” While ignoring all scientific evidence and medical advice. (Additional out) Easy fix, just add, ‘Once you’ve been vaccinated, put on a mask and pass a temperature check’.

Tease: Coming up at _____, when minimum wage will go up in twenty states

Starting tomorrow the minimum wage will increase in twenty US states. The increase ranges from an 8 cents an hour in Minnesota to a $1.50 increase per hour in New Mexico. California will raise their minimum wage for employers with 26 or more workers to $14 per hour, the highest state-wide baseline in the country. Nice work Minnesota, I’m sure that extra eight cents an hour will make a huge difference. (Additional out) Just a dollar less than the number Bernie yells at us every election cycle.

Tease: In _____ minutes, according to multiple studies this is the most important quality for happy relationships

Psychological flexibility is the most important quality for happy relationships. That’s based on the findings from a recent review of 174 separate studies that included nearly 44,000 participants in long term relationships. Psychological flexibility means ‘contacting the present moment fully as a conscious human being, and based on what the situation affords, changing or persisting in behavior in the service of chosen values.’ Probably not a good sign that I don’t understand what any of that means. (Additional Out) And if that doesn’t work, just compliment them, do the dishes and hope for the best.

Phone Topic/Web Poll: Today is New Year’s Eve, time to make our New Year’s resolutions. Studies show less than 25% of people actually stay committed to their resolutions for more than 30 days. The most common include exercise more, lose weight, get organized, learn a new skill or hobby, live life to the fullest, save money, quit smoking and spend more time with family and friends. Do you have a New Year’s resolution, if so what is it, and how do you plan on keeping it?

Contest Tease: Coming up at _____________, what does this traditional song mean? The correct answer wins ________.

[Contest setup] The song we’ll all sing tonight when the clock strikes midnight, “Auld Lang Syne”, dates back to a Scottish poem published 220 years ago by Robert Burns. What does ‘Auld Lang Syne’ translate to?

A: Help us move on

B: Old long since

C: Never make us cry

Answer: B, the phrase itself translates to ‘old long since’ but the way the phrase is used in Burn’s poem roughly translates to ‘for the sake of old times’. I always thought it meant and ‘Nobody knows any other words.’

[DIY Feature] Throwback Thursday Name That Year: I’ll describe the events of a year and the first person to call in and correctly identify it wins ___________. If no one gets it I’ll move on to more clues.

1st break clues: The Branch Dividians clashed with the ATF in Waco, Buckingham Palace opens its doors to the public, and this movie roared into theaters (Jurassic Park Clip)

2nd break clues: Beanie Babies are launched, Michael Jordan was named NBA Finals MVP for the 3rd straight year, and this guy is sworn in as President (Clinton Sax Clip)

Answer: 1993
